The first thing I noticed was the swarm – not of bees, but of wasps. Thousands of them, circling around a huge nest in a Eucalypt about 2 metres above head height. The nest was about 30 cm across and was open at the bottom, with wasps buzzing in and out.I moved as close as I dared for photos, but soon decided discretion was the better part of valour and skedaddled out of there!
